The independent charity Crimestoppers has received a boost after receiving a cheque of £5,000.

Sussex Police handed over the cheque, with the funds coming from proceeds of crime confiscated from convicted criminals.

Detective Chief Inspector Ali Eaton, who handed the cheque to Carolyn Randall, area manager for Sussex Crimestoppers, said, “We have a dedicated team of Financial Investigators in our Economic Crime Unit who carry out cash forfeitures and confiscation investigations into Sussex criminals.

“This helps ensure that these criminals pay back the cash equivalent of their benefits from crime. The Proceeds Of Crime Act (POCA) is a great tool to strip offenders of their assets and plough it back into our fight against crime.

“By providing Crimestoppers with these extra funds we continue to support their campaigns throughout 2013, including awareness about rural crime, human trafficking and metal theft.”

Carolyn Randall added, “We are absolutely delighted to be working in partnership with Sussex Police and to receive such a generous donation. Last year Sussex Crimestoppers received more than 2000 actionable calls which helped the police solve crime in the community.”
