Council puts Polegate wind farm plans on hold

A DECISION on the controversial Polegate wind farm plans will now be made in the spring so planners can get archaeological information.

The much-opposed plan, which has received more than 500 representations, includes a five-turbine wind farm on land north of the A27, either side of Shepham Lane.

The plans have been put forward to Wealden District Council by Galliford Try Renewables (GTR) and each turbine will stand at 415 feet tall which is almost as tall as the London Eye.

The matter was originally due to be decided at Wealden District Council’s planning meeting in December but the council has now announced that its planning committee will not consider the plans until the spring because more information is needed.

A spokesperson from the district council said Shepham Wind Farm was likely to be discussed at either April or May’s planning meeting but the timescale is dependent on how quickly the information is supplied.

The council spokesperson said, “The planning authority, based on the statutory consultee responses received, is seeking additional information from the applicants regarding the archaeology of the site, noise and landscape impacts.

“It is now unlikely to be heard by planning committee south before the spring though this is dependent on the amount of time required to provide the additional information requested.

“Depending on the information the authority receives, there is the possibility that further consultation may be necessary with the interested parties.”

A campaign group has formed against the wind farm proposals and concerns about a range of issues have been raised among residents.

Noise, vibrations and flicker are causes for concern and some residents have suggested the turbines will cause serious health problems.

However, Tom Porter, project developer for GTR, has told the Herald, “GTR would like to reassure residents that there are no direct health effects from noise or vibration at the level generated by wind turbines.”

You'll learn Pina Colada. When i was young I too believed in Queen, Country and Government. How the years and experiences change one's outlook. Probably why only the young are prepared to go and fight our government's wars and come home either physically or mentally ruined. As for not believing our wonderful rulers capable of doing wrong, what do you think about the rest of Europe saying that these faulty PIP breast implants must be removed poste haste, while our lot are frantically trying to wash their hands of any responsibility, saying there's no proof that a lymph system full of silicone causes any harm? UK women are being shunted between GP and private clinic with no answers to what must be a great worry. That's not good enough given that the UK Government sanctioned these things for safe use despite their being five times cheaper than the next on the list! Just one example from the inepts in charge.

Definately agree on the olympics front, wasn't that what put Greece in the situation they are in now or at least helped conciderably. But i don't think everything that the government invests in is the same as throwing money down the drain. Sometimes people are too quick to critiscise just because they like to disagree, nothing is ever just 'put up overnight' there is always lots of careful planning and diliberation so i just find it so hard to believe that our government (that really isn't that bad) would do something if the benefits didn't weigh the nagatives. Although appreciate that some of those negatives affect some more than others. But this is just my young (and perhaps naive?) opinion.

Oh dear Pina Colada. No brainer eh? Had you got the brains to research both wind farms and PV panels you would find overwhelming proof that the wretched things just do not deliver as promised. We are stuck with them because tide turbine research, which promises much better results, has had no government money or encouragement put into it. Wind and PV has been easy and cheap to bring to a very gullible market. It doesn't cost the government a penny, makes a fortune for the makers and maintainers, and costs the rest of us consumers mega bucks as production costs are 50% above those of normal generation. And guess who is going to be given no choice but to pay for the farce? Still, if that's what you want, Pina Colada be happy. That's what you're going to get as your government would far rather throw the family silver at high speed rail and Olympics. Both of which most of us would happily consign to the bog!

I think the wind farm is a fantatsic idea and something has got be done about renewable energy in this country. The wind farms have to go somewhere so why not polegate? I live in polegate quite near to the site and i think they look spectacualar not at all an eyesaw. I am by no means part of a 'green hoarde' but i do feel strongly about this, people will always object to these kinds of projects because they are afraid of change to the landscape where they live. Look at all of the objections there were for the Polegate Bypass and that was a complete no brainer - polegate high street was chaos before that was built!

The government are just blinkered re these inefficient monstrosities. They love them because they cost them nothing and they placate the screaming green hordes. Take the manufacturing, erection and maintenance emissions into account and what have you got? A really ungreen eyesore that is never going to deliver as promised. Ask the Germans. They've done ten year trials and concluded that the 'green dream' is just that. A dream. Let's have some new nuclear stations. It's the only way forward!

We need to get the Government onside, as well as local councils and others, if we are going to stop these monstrosities being built. Are you disillusioned by rising electricity prices, over dependence on the "green" dream [especially uneconomical and inefficient wind farms] and the destruction of our countryside then please register your objection on http:epetitions.direct.gov.ukpetitions22958 or by googling "wind petition norfolk" and following the link. Please your Councillors, members of your community and any one else you know to sign up too.
