The county council is ‘winning the war’ against potholes in East Sussex.

That’s according to Roger Williams from East Sussex Highways who said around 400 potholes in the area were being repaired each day.

Earlier this month the Herald was inundated with calls from readers who highlighted roads in the town that had suffered cracks due to the icy conditions and wet weather.

Wilton Avenue, Belmore Road, Beechy Avenue, Hazelwood Avenue and Priory Road are among roads that residents have said were in need of attention.

Mr Williams said the particularly wet and cold weather of late had led to an increase in pot holes adding, “Before Christmas we had eight gangs our aross the county and now we have 24. They are repairing about 400 potholes every single day. We are now starting to repair more than are being reported to us. We’re starting to win the war.”

He said the potholes repairs were being prioritised on how dangerous they were and that the location and depth of them were also being taken into account.

In the last three years East Sussex County Council has invested nearly £40 million in resurfacing more than 300km of road.
