Cop commissioner candidate’s pledge
A CANDIDATE for the forthcoming election of crime commissioner for Sussex Police says he will claim less than a third of his wages if successful.
David Joe Neilson, standing as an independent, told the Herald he will only take home £25,000 a year of the £85,000 annual salary – the rest going towards various policing projects. However, he said he also believes voters should be given more time to make their minds up.
He said, “This job carries a huge amount of power for one person.
“If this power gets into the wrong hands we will have a police state in Sussex. I think that the vote should be put off for a year.”
