Concert to be held in memory of Eastbourne musician
A CONCERT in memory of Eastbourne musician Jenny Line will take place at the Kings Centre next month (September) to raise cash for Cancer Research UK.
Much-missed Jenny died in January 2009 at the age of 53 after a brave battle against cancer. She was a well-known brass player in Eastbourne and the surrounding area. She played with Eastbourne Silver Band from 1995 until her death.
Jenny played flugel horn and solo tenor horn with the Lewes, Glynde and Beddingham Brass Band (LGB Brass), which has organised the concert on September 3.
The music will include some of Jenny's favourite pieces, including solos by members of her family. Husband Tony, LGB Brass' principal euphonium, will swap instruments and play Scarlet Ribbons on tenor horn. This piece was arranged specially for Jenny by local musician and arranger, Nigel Simmons.
He son Chris, the band's soprano cornet player, will play Demelza and daughter Shelley, the band's former bass trombone player, will sing Paper Moon which has also been specially arranged by Nigel.
Mayor of Eastbourne Carolyn Heaps and the mayor and mayoress of Lewes will attend the event.
The concert will start at 7.30pm at the centre in Edison Road. Tickets are 5 and include a free drink in the interval.
LGB Brass and the Kings Centre are not charging for their services so that all proceeds can be donated to Cancer Research UK.
Tickets are available from the King's Centre or by phoning 01323 521125. Credit card bookings can be taken over the phone. Please quote 'Brass for Life' when booking.
