A FORMER Sussex Downs student, who recently starred in a BAFTA-nominated film, has credited the college with her decision to become an actor.

Helen Cripps stars in the critically acclaimed feature film Black Pond, out now on DVD, where she performs alongside British Comedy Award winner Simon Amstell in a story about a family accused of murder when a stranger dies at their dinner table.

The 28-year-old, a former Cavendish School pupil from Eastbourne, attended Park College from 2000-2002 where she studied drama, English and history A levels, participated in the Performing Arts course, and enjoyed taking part in extra-curricular drama and music activities such as college productions and trips abroad.

Helen said, “It was during my time at Park that I decided I wanted to become an actor, and I am sure that this is due to the large number and variety of different opportunities that the college offered.”

After Sussex Downs Helen went to Cambridge University before going on to become an actor. She said, “I feel very lucky to have been able to work with such talented people, and it is proof that anything is possible if you really try.”
