CLOSE SHAVE FOR MINIATURE HORSE

MOTORISTS had to swerve to avoid hitting a miniature horse which was wandering along the middle of the Alfriston Road.

The horse, a miniature Falabella horse which is smaller than a Shetland pony, was fortunately found by the owner of a nearby stable and led to safety.

Douglas Murdoch, the owner of Winton Street Farm Stables, is currently looking after the animal and is trying to track down its owner.

Mr Murdoch said, "On Friday evening I was driving home with my six-year-old daughter and the cars that were coming towards us were flashing their lights.

"Then we saw this little horse in the middle of the road.

"We jumped out of the car and luckily it was quite tame and used to people, so I was able to guide it back to my stables.

"It was obviously a little bit confused and had been walking up and down the road, and it was lucky that we were able to get it off the road because it was dusk and it would have been awful if it had been hit by a car."

Mr Murdoch believes the horse, which is a cream coloured mare, is around four years old.

The Falabella is the world's smallest breed of horse and has all the features of a scaled-down horse.

The police so far have not received any enquiries about the miniature horse and Mr Murdoch said if anyone has any information they should contact him on 870089.
