Chef ordered to pay compensation

A CHEF who caused damage to a door has been has been ordered to pay compensation.

Christopher Guobadia had gone to a friend’s home in a bid to retrieve his jacket but had been ushered out by residents after he was unable to get into the flat.

Eastbourne magistrates heard the 29-year-old kicked the door as he left and damaged the lock in the process.

The defendant, of Seaside Road, pleaded guilty to criminal damage at a previous hearing.

A case of assault by beating was discontinued.

Christos Christou, defending, said, “He has pleaded guilty to criminal damage at the first hearing and I ask you to give him credit.

“He had an argument with a friend and forgot his jacket and went to look for it.

“He was ushered out by two men and pushed the door. He accepts he must have damaged the lock and it was loose beforehand.”

Guobadia was given a six month conditional discharge for six months and must pay £175 compensation and £85 costs.
