Car park mural to be spruced up

The colourful murals in Victoria Road car park are set for a spruce up and Hailsham In Bloom is appealing for support.

The murals were set up in 2009 and have deteriorated as a result of significant weather damage over the past three years.

They are due to be redesigned and repainted by cadets from the ATC 249 Hailsham Millennium Squadron early next year, prior to installation in the spring.

Plans are in motion to also repaint the murals located outside the Hailsham East Community Centre in Vega Close in the coming months.

Alternative paints and sealants will be used on some of the murals to ensure increased durability in all weathers.

This particular project follows on from the successful installation of mural displays designed by the Square Youth Café at the Waitrose car park recycling site in Vicarage Lane two years ago, depicting the benefits of household recycling and other local environmental awareness issues.

These particular murals are less weather-damaged and minor repairs will take place soon.

Hailsham In Bloom Chairman Councillor Richard Grocock said, “The mural redesign and repair project is yet another excellent opportunity to carry the important message of re-use and recycling as part of a pro-active community project.”

“Young people and youth organisations in Hailsham must be applauded for their efforts over the past three years in making recycling more interesting to local residents.

“We look forward to working with the 249 Millennium Squadron and other organisations on this next project.”
