BREAKING NEWS: Hampden Park attack man dies

THE 46-year-old man assaulted by teenagers in Hampden Park last night (Thursday) has died.

Police say the man, who lived locally, suffered serious head injuries after being punched and kicked following an altercation with a group of teenagers outside the Premier convenience store in the area of the Hydneye.

He was taken to the Eastbourne District General Hospital where he never regained consciousness.

Detective Inspector Wendy Burton said, “It’s so tremendously sad that this man has died, an absolute tragedy. Our heartfelt condolences go to his family.

“We are doing all we can to learn about what happened that night, the circumstances that led to this attack and now his untimely death. I would appeal to anyone who was in the area last night and who may have any information, however small, to come forward. They should call 101 quoting Operation Delaware or anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

A 13-year-old local boy, who was arrested earlier this afternoon (Friday), has now been arrested for murder, along with a 19-year-old local man. They are in custody currently helping police with their enquiries.
