BMX display marks start of Young Enterprise project

A display of daredevil cycling marked the launch of a new project which will see teams of young people launch themselves in to business.

The Young Enterprise Scheme got off to a flying start with a launch event at the Westskates indoor skate park.

The young people participating in the scheme were introduced to the members of the local board of Young Enterprise and the volunteers from local firms who will be acting as their business advisors for the academic year.

The event featured a speech by Eastbourne MP Stephen Lloyd and the demonstration by professional BMX bike riders from Seventies, the leading BMX distributor in the UK.

Young Enterprise enables pupils at schools and colleges to operate real companies and so gain experience of entrepreneurship and commerce.

The 12 firms being run this year are based at five local schools and colleges. Cavendish, Moira House, College Central, Lindfield and Sussex Downs College are all taking part.

Everyone enjoyed a buffet at launch which was paid for by HMD Kontro Sealless Pumps, one of Eastbourne’s leading manufacturing companies.

Young Enterprise is looking for more sponsors from local businesses and organisations to help encourage young people at a series of awards and other events. Such events will present business opportunities for those involved.

For more information on the schemes and events call Gordon Piggott, chair of the local Area Board, on 01323 502436.
