Bishop Bell pupils go behind the scenes at Westminster
FUTURE David Camerons got a behind-the-scenes peek at Parliament this week after being invited to the hot seat of government by Eastbourne MP Stephen Lloyd.
The youngsters from Bishop Bell were joined by staff from the school on the trip, which was arranged so children could catch a glimpse of some of their work which had been put on show at Westminster as part of a national campaign called Send My Sister to School.
Organised by the Global Campaign for Education, the drive saw a coalition of charities such as ActionAid, Oxfam and Comic Relief and teachers unions such as the National Union of Teachers, join together to highlight the importance of a proper education.
Half a million young people in the UK took part with a lucky few having their work displayed in the capital – including the children from Bishop Bell, who are pictured.
Mr Lloyd said, “I think this is a fantastic campaign, it not only offers students an insight in to the lives of others less fortunate than themselves, but it also teaches them about the democratic process and how they can influence change.
“I was delighted to welcome staff and pupils from Bishop Bell, and feel extremely proud that Eastbourne school pupils are having their work exhibited in Parliament.”
