Big screen finish to summer fun

EASTBOURNE is holding a free Great British Weekend on the Wish Tower slopes on September 8-9.

The BBC’s Last Night Of The Proms will be shown from 7pm on the Saturday (September 8).

Featuring music from Delius, Verdi,Puccini, Dvorak, Richard Rodgers, John Williams Olympic Fanfare and theme and the traditional Henry Wood Fantasia on British Sea Songs together with Edward Elgar’s Land of Hope and Glory and Jerusalem orchestration.

Then on the Sunday (September 9) the London 2012 Paralympic Games Closing Ceremony will be shown from 7pm and will feature the final moments from the London 2012 games.

This will include the parade of athletes, the extinguishing of the Paralympic flame and the passing of the flag to the next host city of Rio de Janeiro, along with musical performances headlined by Coldplay.

Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism, Cllr Neil Stanley said, “This fantastic event at the Wish Tower Slopes looks set to be a great night for all the family to celebrate some brilliant national events and also the closing summer events in Eastbourne as we draw towards the end of this Olympic and Queen’s Diamond Jubilee year.

“Make sure you wear red white and blue clothing and bring your red white and blue flags to get into the true British spirit.”

There will be also be a bar and refreshments available throughout both evenings.

And at 4.30pm each day, prior to the evening event, a children’s film will be shown on the big screen – with The Muppets on Saturday and Chariots of Fire on Sunday.

Both these films are presented in association with Filmspot www.filmspot.org.uk who are a year round, touring celebration of cinema focusing on East Sussex locations.
