Beachy Head death: man named

POLICE have identified the elderly man who plunged to his death in a mobility scooter yesterday (Sunday).

He was 81-year-old Victor Newton who lived with his wife in Langney.

Eye-witnesses told police they saw Mr Newton driving towards the cliff edge saying to himself, “I’m tired” and two women tried to stop him as he headed for the cliff edge but were unable to save him.

Eastbourne’s coastguard team was called in to recover his body from the rocks below.
