ASBO teen banned from Hailsham

POLICE in Hailsham have welcomed the issue of an Anti-Social Behaviour Order against an teenager who has been causing 'immense distress' to residents in the town.

Thomas Alexander White is a former Hailsham resident but now living in Lascelles Terrace, Eastbourne.

The 18-year-old was issued with the order at Eastbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday (January 28).

In addition to numerous incidents of anti-social behaviour within the town, since 2008 White has been convicted of two offences of robbery, assault, theft from a dwelling, possession of cannabis, criminal damage and failing to comply with the requirements of a community order.

Under the terms of the two-year order, White is prohibited from entering the town of Hailsham and using or encouraging others to use, threatening, offensive, intimidating, insulting or abusive language or behaviour in any public place.

Magistrates also ordered that White does no associate with any of the five teenagers with whom he has actively been involved in anti-social behaviour and crime.

Two of the named teens have also been issued with ASBOs in the last three months.

Sergeant Owen Radley from Hailsham police said, "Tom White was part of a group who caused residents and businesses within Hailsham immense distress and inconvenience through their continued foul language, mindless vandalism and thieving.

"Thanks to the efforts of the Safer Wealden Partnership, Anti-Social Behaviour Order officers and Hailsham Neighbourhood Policing Team, three of this group have now been issued with ASBOs.

"The issue of this order sends a clear message to those who wish to engage in anti-social behaviour that it will not be tolerated, and that police in Wealden District will take action to protect the public from such individuals."
