Animal magic brings new awards for Drusillas zoo

DRUSILLAS has scooped two of the top gongs at the prestigious Sussex Business Awards.

At a ceremony held at the Grand Hotel in Brighton, the zoo picked up the top accolade of Company of the Year, in addition to the much-coveted Best Customer Service in Sussex award.

The 21st anniversary awards were supported by a number of local and national companies, many of whom were represented on the judging panel including Deloitte, Heart FM, Sussex Life and Royal Mail.

A total of 15 awards in total were up for grabs on the evening, presented by comedienne and Mock the Week panellist, Zoe Lyons.

The success closely follows the zoo's earlier triumph at the South East England Tourism Excellence Awards. During a gala dinner at Wentworth Club in Surrey, Drusillas received the silver award for Large Visitor Attraction of the Year.

Director Laurence Smith said, "We were the first visitor attraction in Europe to have Thomas as a permanent attraction but our success is not just about Thomas; we have a new project each year and are constantly striving to improve every aspect of the park."

Director Christine Smith added, "Winning one award is an honour but achieving three is really superb. It's a real testament to the whole workforce, whether that's serving our visitors on the frontline or behind the scenes. We are delighted."
