Airbourne support delights the Blades

HOT ON the heels of the news this year’s Airbourne bucket collection netted £33,600 one of the stars of the show has revealed it also had a bumper weekend of fundraising.

The Blades display team have long been favourites with the Eastbourne crowd and enjoyed another four days of fun at the event last month.

However, their appearance wasn’t just about wowing the crowds, the team from The Blades were also trying to raise money for the RAF Association.

The association is dedicated to supporting serving and ex-RAF personnel and their families, providing help and support for the entire RAF family, whenever they are in need.

That could be service men and women who have been wounded on operations or veterans who simply need a shoulder to lean on.

The Blades have been supporting the charity’s Wings Appeal for the last three years. And, much to their delight, the amount raised during Airbourne topped £14,000.

RAF Association director of fundraising Michael Bolton said, “Airbourne was just as much about fundraising as it was flying and The Blades helped to raise more than £14,000 for the Wings Appeal over the course of the weekend.

“I am deeply grateful for the fantastic support we receive from the people of Eastbourne whose generosity will help us to continue to provide support for any members of the RAF Family who are in need.”

The Blades proudly fly the flag for the association during each of their displays as all of the team’s aircraft, the Extra 300s, are branded with RAF Association livery and the charity’s iconic Wings Appeal logo.

The public also has the chance to take to the skies with the team for a formation aerobatic flight by raising money for the RAF Association’s Wings Appeal in The Blades Challenge.

Individuals who raise more than £2,000 for the charity earn themselves a front seat passenger trip and enjoy their very own private Blades display.

The RAF Association has a network branches all over the world, with members offering friendship and support to one another.

Eastbourne has its very own RAF Association branch, which is based on Wish Road.
