Air cadets' activities put under searchlight
PARENTS have been invited to a guided tour of the 249 Hailsham Millennium Squadron headquarters tomorrow night.
The tour will include presentations on activities undertaken by cadets, including first aid, flight simulators, drill and radio communications.
Guests of honour will include the Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex, Peter Field, and Hailsham mayor Ian Haffenden.
Squadron Commanding Officer Flight Lieutenant Neil Banks will host the event, at the HQ in Victoria Road, from 7.30pm.
It will also include presentations of awards to 249 cadets and Cllr Haffenden said he was delighted he would be attending.
He said, "The evening will be an excellent opportunity for existing cadets to show parents and invited guests what they have been involved in during the past year and what they get up to on parade evenings.
"The 249 Millennium Squadron's activities are designed to give cadets the skills and knowledge for civilian life and the potential for a career in the public services – while having great fun at the same time.
"I'd also like to congratulate in advance the very deserving winners of the various cadet awards."
The Air Training Corps is an organisation open to boys and girls aged from 13 years and three months to 20-years-old, depending on progress.
The 249 Millennium Squadron was formed in January 2000 and meets twice weekly at Victoria Hall in Victoria Road on Tuesdays and Thursdays, between 7pm and 9.15pm.
Teenagers interested in joining the air cadets are also invited to an open day event of youth festivities on Saturday June 27 at Hailsham Community College, between 10am and 12pm.
