A fantastic turn-out for charity seafront stroll

MORE than 250 people took part in a charity walk along the seafront on Saturday evening (September 8) in support of Marie Curie Cancer Care.

The Walk Ten event raised an estimated £15,000 for the charity which gives people with cancer and other terminal illnesses the chance to spend their last days at home, supported by their families.

The 10k sponsored stroll along the prom was one of a series of twilight walks which took place at 25 venues across the UK.

There was also the opportunity to decorate memory lanterns before the walk, which were then lit for a ceremony at 10pm which included a minute’s silence.

Fireworks lit up the night sky at the culmination of the event as walkers and their families enjoyed a picnic to celebrate the work of Marie Curie Nurses.

Louise Stone, regional events manager for London & the south east, said, “It was a truly fantastic event and we’re so grateful to everyone who came along and raised crucial funds that will help Marie Curie Nurses provide more than 750 hours of care.”
