£4,000 stolen in Eastbourne armed raid

A SECURITY driver was attacked by a gang wielding baseball bats and robbed of a cash box containing £4,000 on Tuesday afternoon.

The drama happened outside the Tile Centre on the Hawthorne Industrial Estate at around 1.30pm yesterday (September 25) when a 58-year-old security guard, who was collecting cash was ambushed as he made his way back to his van.

The terrified man ran into the Tile Centre but the gang followed him into the store and attacked him with baseball bats. They wrenched the cash box from his hand and fled in an Audi which had stolen number plates on.

The cash box was later found emptied in the garden of a house in St Anthony’s Avenue.

Police are investigating and are expected to release descriptions of the robbers.
