A popular Brown Owl who has served 30 years in Hailsham enjoyed an afternoon tea with the young Brownies to celebrate the milestone anniversary.

Rosemary Barker has been leading the Fourth Hailsham Brownies at St Mary’s Church for three decades and has met many children over the years.

Rosemary has been there for so long, she now has the children of her former Brownies in her group. Her daughter Claire Bishop is an adult leader alongside Rosemary and Claire’s daughter has also joined the group. Another of Rosemary’s granddaughters is also set to join.

Caroline Godfrey, who is a Brownie leader with Rosemary and Claire at the same group, said, “Rosemary gives everything to the girls.

“She is so kind and everyone just loves her. Nothing is too much effort.

“There have been so many Brownies over the years and when you speak to them, many say that time was one of the happiest of their lives.”

Rosemary has been recognised for her efforts as Brown Owl. She was recently given a Rotary award for Services to the Community by Rotarians in Hailsham. The popular Brownie leader was presented with her award at a ceremony with dinner.

Rosemary celebrated her 30 years of service with her current Brownies and fellow adult leaders from Fourth Hailsham at the Lansdowne Hotel in Eastbourne. They enjoyed afternoon tea.
