Eastbourne’s all-weather lifeboat (ALB) was launched in the early hours of yesterday (Tuesday) morning after radio reports suggested a yacht was in difficulties.
VHF radio communications were heard from the vessel called Sea Spray which indicated it had suffered electrical failure somewhere near Eastbourne.
The ALB was launched at 1.38am to search the area from Belle Tout lighthouse, out to the Sovereign light tower and back to Norman’s Bay. After a radio signal was no longer received the crew used their radar to scan the area to try and locate the yacht.
After nothing was found the ALB was stood down and returned to the station at 4am.
An Eastbourne lifeboat spokesperson said no further reports have since been received regarding Sea Spray and its location which indicates the incident may have been a false alarm.
