Eastbourne RNLI’s inshore lifeboat was launched on Sunday afternoon after two people were cut off by the tide below the cliffs at Beachy Head.

The couple had been spotted on the popular beach known as Falling Sands by several members of the public who contacted Dover Coastguard.

The tide had been ebbing for at least two hours but as a precaution the volunteer crew of Eastbourne’s inshore lifeboat were paged to attend.

Once on the scene, a crewman from the inshore lifeboat went ashore to confirm all was well with the couple and to offer some safety advice regarding local tides.

The couple were content to finish their undercliff walk and so the crew were stood down and returned to station.
