Tony influenced my theatrical career
I WAS saddened to read of the death of Antony Linford in last week’s Herald (February 3).
At the age of 19 in December 1970 I started work at Devonshire Park Theatre on a part-time basis and first met Tony when he played Widow Twankey in Aladdin.
The only other name that comes to mind from that production is Eric Leroy who played Wishee Washee, who I fell madly in love with albeit for the three weeks of panto.
However, after Christmas I continued to work at DPT, while working during the day at my office job.
Unknown to me then Tony was to become quite an influence on my future helping me realise that the theatre world was where I wanted to go, I started a part time drama course and achieved a degree.
I have some lovely photographs taken at my 21st birthday of Tony and myself and will enjoy poring over them again.
At the age of 60 I am still very much alive and have great memories of the five years I spent at Devonshire Park Theatre.
