Safety laws are spoiling events

Many thanks to your correspondent who has gleaned the information that the tank was removed for Health & Safety reasons – I assume therefore that we, the taxpayers, will have to foot the bill for its removal.

Health and safety laws and the compensation culture have an awful lot to answer for.

What if somebody falls into the moat at the Redoubt? Perhaps the best thing there is to blow the lot up and turn it into a rockery!!

Then on to the parades – what if a cyclist gets injured due to pedestrians being present? It's obvious that pedestrians should be banned – no matter that it has been an offence to cycle on a footpath for many, many years.

That then brings to mind the hidden dangers lurking at the pier, Bandstand and Wish Tower – oh dear!

It seems in this day and age that nobody at a municipal level dare attempt anything sensible or pleasant for visitor or resident – in case of vandalism or civil action for compensation!
