Restore gardens to former glory
A few years ago, it was a delight to go to the specially set-out scented garden in Hampden Park for the blind and the disabled.
Unfortunately, imagine my dismay when I visited Hampden Park again recently to find nothing but neglect and weeds were left of the garden.
The carved stone introduction remains, although mindless yobbos have stolen the Braille sign for the blind to read.
It's still a wonderful place to stay if you want a seat in the shade whilst viewing the wildlife in the lake (I was also amused by an amazing squirrel fight on Thursday), I like to wander around the park and read the plaques with the dedicated trees and memorial trees and memorial benches whilst appreciating the wildlife and the new historical horticultural walk near the caf but surely, such a wonderful and original idea as the scented garden should be upkept.
I hope the parks and gardens department of the borough council rectify this as soon as possible as the blind and disabled deserve the respect of having one enjoyable thing when so many other pleasures have been so cruelly denied them.
