No tax funding for jubilee party

PURELY by accident I read to my disgust in the paper that the town council in all its wisdom have decided to increase the council tax to fund a children’s party to celebrate the Queens jubilee.

As a republican I find this an absolute disgrace.

What gives the council the right to decide that everyone paying their council tax is a supporter of the monarchy and is willing to contribute to this non-essential service under the guise of a tax.

I have no objection to the party idea provided it is funded by the sale of tickets and not from tax payers’ money.

So much for a democracy when you are not even given a chance to opt out of this ridiculous scheme.

The town council are a joke. I wish to hear the council’s reasoning for their decision.
