LETTER: Pier as a place of pleasure

3
Have your say

For those at Eastbourne Borough Council, and those against the colours that the pier has been painted, I suggest you take a look at the piers in Hastings and Brighton, which are very drab and to me do not look like a conventional pier.

Then look at Eastbourne Pier. I have asked a few visitors what they thought of the colours the pier have been painted and the response was they liked it with the gold shining out in the sun. You will find nothing shining out on the Hastings and Brighton piers.

I am sure that when he bought the pier the owner was not aware that planning permission went down to what colour paint he should use. If he was trying to changing the structure I could understand him needing planing permission but not the paint choice. A proper meeting of both parties would have sorted all this out and the job got on with instead of all work being stopped and the scaffolding still up.

It all comes down to communication and talking to each other. But at the end of the day he did put up the money when no one else would and saved a lovely pier.

If the council are so upset about the colour the owner has chosen why did they not buy the pier? Then the choice of paint colour could be theirs. Let the man get on with making the pier a place of pleasure. Seeing the number of people on the pier during the recent good weather, I think many would agree with me.
