LETTER: No doubt storm will be blamed

Storm Imogen has been and gone, leaving fences and trees down. There appears to be no local major structural damage, except to the recently built 65-bedroom Premier Inn in Eastbourne's town centre where the end brick wall of the building collapsed, showering hundreds of bricks onto a parked car. Fortunately it was at the rear of the building otherwise the outcome would have been far worse. No doubt the storm will be blamed, rather than the May 2014 building being inadequately designed or built to withstand a locally not very major storm.

I hope the now 61-bedroom hotel under construction in Lewes is better designed. The developers seem to have faith in their design of a predominately wooden building above a restaurant, as since being given planning permission, they have changed the internal design and omitted a fire escape, thereby gaining two additional bedrooms.
