Learning the lessons of the past
I WAS interested to read the letter in the Eastbourne Herald dated January 27, entitled “Preventing the Spread of Infections”.
I think your correspondent may be referring to the precautions taken during outbreaks of Foot and Mouth Disease.
When I was employed as a milk analyst at a local dairy, during an outbreak much attention was important in the prevention of the spread of the disease where, at the end of each day, the lorries were hosed down thoroughly with extra care given to the wheels.
I am also interested to know how many cases of the MRSA virus, if any, have occurred outside of the hospitals.

Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 02:20 PMThere was a time when the hospitals of Eastbourne were separately dealing with fracture, medical and mental type matters. Nowadays, as in the rest of this country, it is gathered together in one spot so that the risk of bacterial infection is multiplied. Gone have the days of isolation hospitals and similar intelligent arrangements within our NHS system. Who knows, one day, someone may invent a system of separation and we will go back to the days of lesser illnesses contracted at hospitals.
