Leaders be thoughtful

The controversy over the Wish Tower Restaurant continues. I sincerely hope that the decision makers pay heed to many of the comments in support of retaining the present building.

What needs to be remembered is that all buildings go through a period of being unloved; either being not old enough to be of historical importance, or modern enough to meet with modern taste.

How many good Victorian or Edwardian buildings were demolished in the 50s and 60s because they fell between those two stools?

Only recently the wonderful art deco facade of the former coach station was demolished - how glad that the people of Bexhill must be that the same fate did not befall the De La Warr Pavilion as it so nearly did!

The Wish Tower restaurant building is a rare example of a 1960s interpretation of ultra modern. Properly and sympathetically maintained what a wonderful legacy future generations will enjoy. Please planners try to look ahead.
