Can you help with my memoirs?
I am writing my memoirs, and would like to fill in a gap of the years 1937- 1938.
As a very young boy I remember being very frightened by the sight of a Zeppelin over Eastbourne. I have searched many records but can only find reference to these airships being seen over East Anglia.
Through your paper, is it possible to contact anyone who can back up my thoughts?
I was born in the Langney area, joined the RAF as a Boy Entrant in 1949, and after military service, married and settled in Worksop, Nottinghamshire.

Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 11:33 AMThere is, for sale on Amazon at the moment, an aeriel picture of Eastbourne Pier, with a paddle steamer moored at the end, stated to have been taken from a Zeppelin in 1931. Britain was also experimenting with large airships during this time. R101 and her sisters were a not uncommon sight over Sussex. In fact R101 passed over Hastings on her last doomed flight before crashing near Beauvais.

Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at 11:41 AMI can confirm that a zeppelin did fly over Eastbourne. I cannot remember exactly when but I recall that I was in Central Ave one summertime when it flew overhead.
