Big Brother threat should be averted

BIG Brother is coming. The Queen’s speech is expected to include legislation which will allow, by default, the monitoring of all internet, email and phone conversations within the country.

I think we all want those who are a threat to the country, to be tracked and investigated and for that there is a current process in place.

Although like most law-abiding citizens I have nothing to hide, it is easy to see how a database of what we are all doing, can be built up, and then used for a variety of purposes. We are also aware how such data could get out to other agencies such as the media.

Such a snooping apparatus would be a useful part of any police state and it could in the future easily be abused should the political climate change.

PAUL HUMPHREYS,

Chichester Close, Willingdon.
