Advance support for paramedics
WHILE it always a pleasant surprise to find oneself described as kindly in a newspaper article as you did in Wednesday’s paper, I would not want people to get the wrong impression of my contribution in this sad incident.
Although I am proud to be an Eastbourne resident, I was not a passer-by. I was called by the South East Coast Ambulance Service in my professional capacity.
As well as a trauma consultant working towards the new Major Trauma Centre in Brighton, I am a volunteer trauma expert with the local charity SIMCAS, www.simcas.org.uk and as an organisation we provide advanced support to the paramedics.
We could be thought of as the land-based version of our good friends at Kent and Sussex Air Ambulance.
We have been providing this service in Sussex since 1998 and more recently have expanded to cover Surrey and Kent.
