14/11/07: Society exists for TM sufferers

I have recently attended the first AGM of the Transverse Myelitis Society and wondered if any readers who suffer from TM would like to know of this society's existence.

I know of only one other sufferer in Eastbourne but there may well be others who are afflicted with this very isolating condition.

Transverse myelitis is very rare neurological disorder.

It attacks the central nervous system and causes paralysis and numerous other symptoms.

There are about 300 new cases a year in the UK and most doctors have never seen one.

The society is a registered charity and exists to provide information and support to those afflicted with TM and other auto-immune neurological conditions.

The nearest support group to us meets in London.

Their address is 35 Avenue Road, Brentford TW8 9NS, or you can contact the secretary on 0208 568 0350 or e-mail geoff.treglown@btinternet.com or telephone me on 01323 732079.
