THERE are just two weeks left to sign up for Walk Ten, a charity fundraising walk for Marie Curie Cancer Care, on Saturday, September 8.
The 10k walk will raise cash to provide more free care to people with terminal illnesses, in their own homes.
Following the walk along Eastbourne seafront which starts at 6pm, there will be fireworks, live music, Punch & Judy and a picnic to celebrate the work of Marie Curie Nurses.
Registration is £10 per person in advance (children go free) and £20 to register on the night.
Everyone is encouraged to raise as much as they can to help Marie Curie Nurses provide more free care to people with terminal illnesses in their own homes and in the charity’s hospices.
Kim Hedges (pictured), who has registered for the walk, said, “My life has been touched by both family and friends who have had cancer and are now living a normal life as is possible in their situations.
“Over the past few years I have lost friends and family members including my father-in- law.
“Most recently a very dear friend and colleague that I worked with during my time as an airline stewardess, one moment he was there with his usual wit and charm and suddenly he passed away.
“I saw the 10km walk and I knew that I had to do this in memory of Darren Feeney, my father-in-law and everyone that I know who has been touched by this tragic illness.
“I have passed my initial goal of raising £1,000 and I am hoping to achieve £1,500 by the time of the walk.

Louise Stone, Marie Curie Cancer Care’s events manager for London & South East, said, “There’s been a really enthusiastic response to Walk Ten and there’s still time for anyone who hasn’t registered to sign up.
“People taking part can expect a fun evening.
“All the funds raised by participants will help Marie Curie Nurses to provide more care to local people with terminal illnesses and we’d encourage everyone taking part to raise as much as they can.”
