COMEDIAN Jo Brand led a group dip and took the plunge into Eastbourne’s sea.
The popular performer was in town to film ‘Jo Brand’s Big Splash’, a new programme for satellite TV channel Dave.
In Saturday’s sunshine (June 4) she was able to coax a fair number of swimmers into the, still fairly cold, Eastbourne sea and dished out ice-creams and ice lollies as an incentive.
The swimmers charged in from the section of beach near the lifeguard station.
Brand, who studied at Bexhill College, chatted to the swimmers and sun-worshippers and took time out to pose for photos.
The show explores Britain’s relationship with water and is expected to be shown later this year.
Eastbourne Borough Council cabinet member for tourism and leisure Councillor Neil Stanley said, “The number of residents, visitors and families that came along to support Jo and join her for her mass swim in the afternoon was fantastic and it created a real spectacle on Eastbourne beach this weekend.
“We were very pleased that our beaches received an excellent rating in this year’s Good Beach Guide and Saturday’s filming was a great way for us to celebrate our first class seafront and I can’t wait to join thousands of viewers across the country in watching Eastbourne in the TV series when it airs later this year.”
