Youth hostels in Eastbourne and Alfriston are celebrating a top 5 ranking in the Best UK Hotel category.
The two local hostels join all the Youth Hostel Association venues throughout the country in a surprise top five ranking in the Best UK Hotel category in the recent Guardian, Observer and guardian.co.uk Readers’ Travel Awards 2012.
The youth hostelling charity, which has four Youth Hostels in East Sussex, was ranked at number four behind the luxury chain hotels, Sofitel, Hotel Du Vin & Bistro and Malmaison. Marriott was ranked at number five in the category.
YHA has worked hard to shed its former reputation of rickety bunk beds, sleeping bags and 1960s dormitories and has invested more than £19.5m in recent years in to its network of 150+ youth hostels throughout England and Wales creating great value, modern and comfortable accommodation, said a YHA spokesperson.
East Sussex’s youth hostels, based in Alfriston, Eastbourne, Telscombe, Southease and Blackboys, are some of the charity’s most popular locations.
YHA is celebrating the win by offering people a special winter warmer offer for stays between November 1 and February 28.
Four people can stay in a private family room and have an evening meal for only £44.95 for one night or only £84.50 for two nights.
The offer is open to YHA members and non-members alike, however members will make an additional saving.
Many Youth Hostels now boast private en-suite rooms, restaurants and bars and some even have honeymoon suites! YHA London Central was even praised recently for its comfort, location, great value and facilities in the French edition of Cosmopolitan
