Hunt is on for youngster to win year’s theatre training

The hunt is on in the Eastbourne, Hailsham and Seaford area for youngsters wanting to try new theatrical skills through sponsorship.

Children of all ages, from all walks of life, are being invited to apply to take part in the KalliKids Sponsored Child programme with The Theatre Workshop, which trains young people aged six-16 in performing arts.

If successful, the sponsored child will get to try The Theatre Workshop’s weekly three hour session in singing, acting and dance for free for a year. The Eastbourne school takes place at Causeway School on Friday evenings from 4.30pm ot 7.30pm.

Theatre Workshop’s creative director Lora Munro said, “We are thrilled to be involved in KalliKids’ Sponsored Child Initiative. This is a fabulous opportunity for children to get involved in performing arts, whatever their background.

“We offer top quality ‘triple threat’ training, with all lessons taught by West End professionals. Whether you are a budding young actor, looking for a platform into the professional industry, or you just want to gain some confidence and make new friends, The Theatre Workshop has something to suit everyone.”

The Theatre Workshop has many students working professionally on stage and screen, in TV series’ including: Game of Thrones, Doctor Who, Call the Midwife, Eastenders, Emmerdale, Doctors, Dani’s Castle, Hank Zipzer, Hetty Feather, The 4 O’Clock Club and on stage in West End musicals like Matilda and Billy Elliot.

This is the second year KalliKids has run the Sponsored Child scheme. In 2014 more than 20 children benefitted. This year more than 85 places will be given away nationally.

Founder of KalliKids, Karen Bach, said, “Inspiring young people to take part in new activities is pivotal to everything we do. Not only does it further their skills but also helps nurture their confidence and social skills.

KalliKids is the UK’s accreditation for children’s activities and services used and trusted by parents across the UK. KalliKids offers parents a place to find and recommend their favourite clubs, classes, places to go, tutors and services. The company is based in Brighton, and through speaking directly to parents and checking qualifications and documentation they produce accurate recommendations that are informative for parents across the UK.
