A COLOURFUL local character is appearing on television to get tips about how to improve his business after an online review criticised the standard of his hotel.
Sheikh Abid Gulzar spent a week filming with Channel 5’s The Hotel Inspector for an episode due to be screened later this year, with the show’s presenter Alex Polizzi and her team, focusing on the Quality Mansions Hotel on Eastbourne seafront.
A website allowing holidaymakers to rate places they have stayed said the hotel needed of a visit from the popular TV programme – and producers obliged, coming to town last week.
According to Mr Gulzar – who also owns the Albany, Chatsworth and Claremont hotels – it was a great experience, even if it did come about because of negative comments online.
Speaking this week Mr Gulzar, who snapped up the hotel back in 2005 before spending more than £1million refurbishing it, said he was delighted to welcome Alex. “They spent time filming and making suggestions as to how the Mansions can be a better place, and that is something I welcome.”
He has been told to stay tight-lipped about how he and the team got on until the hour-long programme is broadcast in August, but unlike some hoteliers previously featured, he was over the moon with the outcome.
“They came, made suggestions and we have taken them on board,” he said. “If that means my hotel is a better hotel, then that can only be good.”
