Hospitality students cook up a competition storm

SUSSEX Downs College Level 3 hospitality students returned triumphant from the recent Wessex Salon Culinaire competition held at Brockenhurst College.

Students represented Sussex Downs College in demonstrating a range of culinary and restaurant skills against formidable and tough opponents from colleges across London and the South East. The competition provides an opportunity for trainee chefs, confectioners and waiters to demonstrate their skills in a variety of classes.

Carol Thrower, college manager for service industries at Sussex Downs College, said, “I am absolutely thrilled for the students and the team. The medal tally was three silver, six bronze, two merits, one best in class and a certificate of regional participation. A truly great result. The judges were looking for an exceptional standard of flair, creativity and technical skills.” The winners were Adam Creasy, 18 and a former Bishop Bell pupil, Perry Foord, 19 who is from Seaford, and Annelie Pavey, a 19-year-old former Willingdon School pupil, who also took the Best in Class award.
