The manager, who took East Preston to the last 16 in 2014, is hoping his side can get on a run in the prestigious cup, having already exited the FA Cup with a whimper.

And with the Hornets travelling to well-known Sussex opposition in the second qualifying round, it presents a good opportunity.

Horsham were last in the Vase in 2001 and the furthest they have been is the fourth round. Di Paola said: “It’s a massive game and an important week for us, although they all are with two games every week now to be honest.

“I went to watch Selsey in pre-season after I saw the draw and Browner (Ian Browne, assistant) has watched them as well. We will prepare as well as can and it looks a winnable game.

“If you were asked for teams that you want to play in cups it would be Sussex teams as you know them well. We must not be complacent, that’s the most important thing. We really want to try and do well in the vase.”

There are fitness concerns over Scott Murfin, who has a foot problem, while Adam Hunt has a hip injury after pulling up in Saturday’s warm-up.
