High-achieving twin sisters and best friends will be going their separate ways to university next month.

Vanessa and Lily Gatward are former Willingdon School pupils and will be going to different universities after spending 18 years, living, working and learning together.

Both girls celebrated excellent results.

Vanessa got three A*s in psychology, sociology and world development. She is off to Cambridge University to study psychology.

Sister Lily acheived a A in politics and 2 Bs in history and economics. She will study history and politics at Queen Mary University of London.

This means the twins will be apart for the first times in their lives.

Lily said, “It will be hard because we are not just sisters, we are best friends as well.”

The girls have always had the same part time jobs and were in most of the same classes when they were at school.

Vanessa added, “The first term will be the hardest but we’ll talk lots and use Skype.”
