THE ribbon was finally cut on Eastbourne’s latest new school recently.
East Sussex County Council’s head of schools, Councillor Nick Bennett, was on hand to help celebrate the official opening of Heron Park Primary School.
At a special celebration event on Wednesday Cllr Bennett joined governors, staff, pupils and parents to cut a ribbon marking the opening of the school in Hampden Park, which was created by the amalgamation of Hampden Park Infants School and Highfield Junior School.
The school has been open since the start of the term in September but the event on Wednesday marked its formal opening.
Speaking immediately after the event Cllr Bennett said, “I’m so pleased to have had the opportunity to do the opening honours today and have thoroughly enjoyed meeting governors, staff, pupils and parents who are rightly proud of their new school.
“It’s a great new school with a really happy and positive atmosphere.
“I have no doubt it will be a wonderful place for teachers to teach and pupils to learn. I’m sure the community of Hampden Park are also proud of their new school.”
Based on the former Highfield Junior School site, the new school underwent significant improvements over the summer holiday and there is more redevelopment planned by the local authority, with the eventual bill running to more than £2.5million.
