A UK supermarket has recalled batches of its Chocolate and Beetroot Cake due to allergy concerns.

Asda’s Extra Special Chocolate and Beetroot Cake has been withdrawn from sale because some packs might contain Extra Special Carrot, Courgette and Orange Loaf Cake.

This contains walnuts, and this is not mentioned on the product label. This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to walnuts.

Products affected are the 276g Asda Extra Special Chocolate and Beetroot Cake with a ‘Best before’ date of 22 February 2016.

An Asda spokesperson said: “We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused by the withdrawal of the Asda Extra Special Chocolate and Beetroot Cake. The product has been withdrawn because some packs may contain Extra Special Carrot, Courgette and Orange Loaf Cake which contains walnuts, which is not mentioned on the label and is a potential health risk for anyone with an allergy to walnuts. We would advise any customers who have bought the product and have an allergy to walnuts, to not eat the product and return it to store for a full refund.”

Further information is also available by contacting Asda Customer Relations on 0800 952 0101.
