Sponsored walk in memory of Kim
Staff from the DGH plan to walk to the Conquest for charity, Eastbourne
A TEAM of NHS staff will walk from the Conquest Hospital in Hastings to the DGH in memory of a colleague who died from a brain tumour.
Members of the East Sussex Healthcare Trust’s therapy team are taking on the 18.2 mile trek in tribute to Kim Keen, who tragically passed away last year.
And they are sure to raise a smile as they go because they are all taking part in fancy dress – decked out in costumes based around the letter K.
There are already plans for a knight, a Kate Middleton and even a giant box of Special K cereal.
A fancy dress run is something Kim would approved of. Two years ago she organised a sponsored walk to raise money for the hospital’s League of Friends.
That event raised £3,000 as Kim, dressed as She-ra, and her colleagues took part dressed as superheroes and villains.
Now her friends think another fundraiser is the perfect way to remember her.
A spokesman for the therapy team said, “Kim was a dear friend and colleague. She was instrumental in organising the event and kept morale high throughout the journey.
“Sadly less than a year later we lost her to a brain tumour and we want to repeat the walk in honour of Kim.”
More than £400 has already been pledged online and the walkers are upping their efforts in the run-up to the walk on Saturday, May 5.
They hope to end up with more than £2,750, a feat which would be rewarded with a plaque from Brain Tumour Research – a fitting tribute to a hugely popular and valued member of staff.
