Wealden District Council is organising more free summer activity days for children on Wednesdays and Fridays. These morning events include sports sessions, arts and crafts, team games, fun cooking with the community chef and are rounded off with a bring-your-own picnic. This year they take place from 10am-2pm today (July 31) at Wanock Road recreation ground, Polegate; August 5 at Sheepsetting Lane recreation ground, Heathfield; August 7 at Hailsham Maurice Thornton Playing Field, Vega Close and August 12 at Uckfield West Park, Markland Way. Under eights must be accompanied by an adult. Local sports clubs and leisure centres will be on hand to highlight the activities they also offer during the holidays. SUS-150724-160454001

The summer holidays are here and Wealden’s free Summer Activity days are being held on a Wednesday or Friday near you.

These is a lot going on with sports taster sessions, arts and crafts, team games, and some tasty fun cooking with the Community Chef.

“This year we are encouraging children of all ages to have a go at some of the different sports already on offer in the Wealden area,” said Councillor Claire Dowling, Cabinet member for Public Health and Community Safety.

“Organised sport can provide many youngsters with an opportunity to shine, particularly if is not usually played in the playground.

“Our sports taster sessions include jiu jitsu, cricket, tennis, hockey, karate, dance and rugby.”

Wealden’s Summer Activity days are just some of the many events taking place up and down the country as part of Play Day 2016, to emphasise the importance of organised play in children’s lives both for the social development and the physical health of future generations.

Be part of the fun in Wealden at the following venues:

Friday 5 August 10 am – 2pm - Wannock Road Recreation Ground, Polegate BN26 5JG.

Friday 12 August 10am – 2pm - Western Road Recreation Ground, Hailsham BN27 3DN.

Children under the age of eight must be accompanied by an adult. Wealden’s Summer Activity days are supported by Active Play, Booker and Best, Freedom Leisure and Waitrose.
