Campaign team’s plea for ‘Carnival support’

THOUSANDS of people will be heading to the town’s carnival this week – and the Save The DGH campaign team are counting on their support.

Chairman Liz Walke and supporters will be marching in Saturday’s procession and want locals to rally behind their message as the battle to save key services at the DGH looks set to kick off once more.

With hospital managers meeting on Wednesday to discuss controversial plans to downgrade some treatments, including maternity and stroke care, the Save The DGH crew will be handing out stickers which they hope people will wear with pride.

Liz Walke said, “The power in the voice of the people was our saving grace in avoiding services from being axed previously, once again we need their help.

“This weekend sees people from all over the town coming together in a great celebration.

“The carnival on Saturday is a true reflection of what Eastbourne can achieve as a town and as a community.

“We want everyone to enjoy the atmosphere of the carnival but to remember that there is still a serious fight going on.”
