The Hawthorns charity fete will take place next weekend (July 16) and help raise much needed funds for a range of charities.

The event will be held at the retirement home from 2.30pm to 5.30pm and each charity will have a stall to raise money for its cause.

These include Parkinsons UK, Cancer Research UK, Friends of DGH, Lions, Embrace, Now Charity Group, Eastbourne Mencap, Winston’s Wish and the Salvation Army.

Ian Turnbull, general manager at The Hawthorns, said, “The Summer charity fete is a key date in the diary at The Hawthorns.

“It provides a fantastic opportunity for us to engage with our local community and the charities that work within the area. As the new general manager at The Hawthorns I know the event has been a great success in previous years and I’m keen to ensure we maintain this for 2016. “Having made contact personally with many of the charities, the level of support has been great and many of those confirmed are returning on the back of last year’s success.”

Paul Durrant, chief operating officer from Eastbourne Mencap, said, “We’re really looking forward to this year’s summer charity fete at The Hawthorns.

“We have previously attended the event and have found it to be a great success.

“We‘re looking forward to meeting some new faces and being able to share with the residents and those who live in the Eastbourne area about the work that we undertake as a charity.

“On our stall this year we’ll be selling a selection of cards, books and gifts, and if the sun puts in an appearance too, then that would make it a perfect day.”

Last year The Hawthorns raised £1,000 for St Wilfrid’s Hospice.

The event promises to be fun for all with cream teas, cakes, gifts, crafts and much more. The event will be opened by the Eastbourne Silver Band.
