‘EVERYTHING in moderation’ is the key to longevity, according to one centenarian who celebrated his 100th birthday recently.

Henry Grimes, known as Harry, was born in Lewes and worked for brewery Watneys for many decades.

This was interrupted when he spent three years in the army before returning to the company and retiring at the age of 62.

Henry, who lives in Old Town with step-daughter June Redbourn, married her mother Eileen Marjorie Jones in 1974.

To mark the milestone birthday on December 31 Henry, who has four step grandchildren and four step great grandchildren, enjoyed a party at home with family, friends and neighbours.

Balloons and a cake were all part of the fun.

He also took some of his family out for a meal at the harbour.

The birthday boy is still active and goes shopping, does the cooking and enjoys watching cricket and football.
